Abstract

Communication is an important process which can bridge a gap between persons and serve as a tool for dispensing essential information between different parties. Sex and sexuality is evidently significant for the continuation of mankind and has existed throughout time in all civilizations but has always remained a taboo. The failure to discuss about this much tabooed topic has affected the physical and mental health especially among the youth population. As family play the most significant role in providing early education to children, this paper examine parent-child communication and its relationship with knowledge and awareness of  sex and sexuality. This paper is a section of a doctoral research undertaken by the authors to understand various aspects of sex and sexuality among college students in Mizoram, one of the Northeastern states in India.   It was found that parents do interact and discuss about different aspects of life related to the well being of their children but in terms of sex and sexuality it was found that communication with their children was less.
