Abstract

Ever since World Health Organization (WHO) declared the novel coronavirus an epidemic, Comprehensive steps are being taken to avoid the deadly virus. In order to resolve the epidemic, India implemented Section 2 of the Epidemic Diseases Act.Government has taken comprehensive steps, which include shutting down of schools, travel restriction and inspection along with regular checks. The biggest problem that people are facing amid coronaviruspandemic is shortage of supply of essential commodities. Public distribution system will play a significant role to ensure efficient supply of food grains to people. Public distribution system is a flagship food security programme of the government. Under PDS government transfer food grains to the general public or households at subsidise rate. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the measures taken by various States to implement the public distribution system in India during the pandemic of coronavirus.This is a review-based paper that has used existing literature and other secondary sources to study the measures taken by various States to implement the public distribution system
