Abstract

Studies indicate development deficit among Muslims of West Bengal in many aspects of their life specially in education and work participation. The objectives set in the study are i) to study comparativesituation in education and workforce participation between Muslims and Hindusof West Bengal, ii) to explore„development deficit pattern‟ in education and workforce participation among Muslims and Hindus, iii) to establish the relationship between thevariables. The study is based on mainly secondary source of data obtained from Census of India, 2011. The finding reveals that the literacy rate and workforce participation rate among Muslim of West Bengal is about 69 percent and 34.55 percent respectively while the literacy rate among Hindus is 79.14 percent and the workforce participation is 39.26 percent.
